The Times Hammond Indiana June 9, 1933
Mrs. CAMPO, 90, oldest living Hammondite
Moved to Hammond during the Civil War Committee is told
Who is the oldest living resident of Hammond?
Mrs. Mary CAMP, age 90, who lives with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Phillip CAMP at 249
Carroll Street, claims the honor.
She said that she moved to Hammond in 1862 during the Civil War days and settled in the
area which is now covered by the Monon Railroad Yards.
This information was imparted today to the committee which is sponsoring the big
anniversary party to be held in Danceland on Monday night, June 26th.
The committee is seeking the oldest resident as its guest of honor for the evening.
This party will mark one of the opening programs of Hammond's 50th anniversary
celebration during the week of June 25.
Second claim to the honor thus far goes to Mrs. Louise MILLER, age 88, who lives
at 5233 State Line Street.
She said she settled here in 1880 on virtually the same site which her present home
now occupies.
If there are any older residents than the foregoing two, the committee would like
to hear from them.
