STATE NEWS

Madison, June 6. – Yesterday noon lightning struck the residence of Tom
Gilbert, at Center Square, Switzerland county, killing instantly Mrs. Tom
Gilbert and Mrs. Tom March, and severely burning a young daughter of
Gilbert's. The building was a low, one-story structure. A neighbor
noticing smoke issuing form the house, rushed over and found the two
elderly ladies dead, but succeeded in saving the girl's life by
extinguishing the flames.
