Mark:

I have obtained divorce records by writing to the following Marion County
department:

City Archives and Records
City County Building, Room B31
200 East Washington Street
Indianapolis, IN 46204

The people working in the department have been very helpful and very prompt;
I've waited no more than a week for responses by mail.

Originally the department accepted personal checks but a form letter I
received in November, 2002 said acceptable payment is a money order or
cashier's check. But there's some confusion about the cost for a particular
document. I have seen nothing in writing but it appears that documents cost
$1 per page. However, I requested some divorce papers from the late 1920's
that occupied 4 or 5 pages and my $3 payment was accepted without a hitch.

I'd suggest you either try to get a telephone number so you can call for
clarification OR send a money order for $3 for each record you're seeking
and keep your fingers crossed.
