Hi Lena,
We are traveling...came through the Lincoln, NE area about a week ago,and hit
some real paydirt. Found the original probate papers of Ken's
g-g-grandmother Ruth CALVERT Lame, widow of Isiaiah Sr. PLUS! Found both
their graves and that of their youngest son Jesse LAME, all together in the
Bennet Cem., Bennet, Lancaster, NE. PLUS Jesse's sister Almeda LAME Ruckle
Steiber and her first husband George RUCKLE and second husband Fred STEIBER
were in the same cem., plus their son Charles L. and his wife, and some
RUCKLE babies PLUS Isaiah Hickman Lame (Jr?), son of Isaiah and Ruth, was
there next to Mary and Philander "Philo" Spaulding. They were the parents of
I & R's son-in-law Otis Spaulding, husband of daughter Minnie. Otis was also
there, but not Minnie, unless she was remarried and buried under a different
namee.
Anyhow, that puts the kabosh on the notion we had that Isaiah Sr. was bur. in
Shannondale in an unmarked grave, like someone has told us years ago. Almost
the whole family went to NE, plus some of their COX cousins. I haven't
digested all this yet, so it's a little overwhelming right now. Oh, we did
find that Sarah Lame, daughter of Ruth and Isaiah was buried in Reynolds, IN,
as their was an unpaid bill from the monument company in Ruth's probate
packet for Sarah's stone. And the reason no one could find James Adam Lame
in Mont. Co., IN in the census I was looking for him in.... there was a short
item in the newspaper that he came from Ohio for the funeral of his mother,
Ruth. Isaiah and Ruth both died in Lincoln, NE. Isaiah Hickman Lame died in
Lincoln, also, but his widow Melissa Rakestraw went to L. A. County, CA with
some of her kids after she was widowed, and she died there, as did they. I
feel like this has been a REEAALLLLY good trip so far.
Good luck on your searches!
Your somewhat cousin-in-law,
Ruthie Lame
