Hi janice...I don't know if we have corresponded before. I am an avid Whetstine researcher with a lot of connections to other Whetstine researchers.
The Mathias you refer to is probably Mathias Jr., likely a son of Mathias Sr. He was born abt 1813 in North Carolina. I have his daughter listed as Susanna, born abt 1836 in Morgan County. There is a degree of confusion among the Morgan County Whetstine researchers about the parentage of Mathias Jr. because there were two of them in Morgan county at that time, both the same age. Descendents of both Mathias Jr's claim Mathias Sr as the father. The Mathias you reference, having been born in North Carolina, is the most probable candidate, since Mathias Sr. was, indeed, in North Carolina at that time.
