Most interesting about the houseboats being made into gunboats. Can you give further describe these boats? Never heard of houseboats being made into gunboats in the Civil War, but could have happened.

Rising Sun must have been like all small towns in America in 1865. What month? Before April or after. Either awaiting the end of the War or joyful that this terrible episode in US history was over. Interesting, too, that your Arkansas grand father came to this particular town. Did he have any kin in RS?
