the Rockville Republican, Wednesday, February 7, 1883

Died. At his residence in Greene township, in Parke county, on Sunday the 28th ult. (Jan. 28, 1883), Samuel R. HAMILTON, aged 86 years, 8 months and 11 days. The deceased was born in Bourbon county, Kentucky, May 17, 1797. In 1816 he came to Jefferson county, Indiana, and remained until 1821, and then went to Ohio. Remaining in Ohio two years, he returned to Kentucky. He came to Parke county in 1825, entered land, returned to Kentucky, and was married to Nancy RAMSEY the same year. He returned to Parke county in 1826, and settled in Greene township, on the farm on which he died. His aged wife still survives. They lived together as husband and wife fifty-seven years, a much longer period of time than is allotted to the average of mankind. They were active church members over half a century, and were connected with the Associated Presbyterian church up to 1859, when they withdrew and united with the United Presbyterians. He served nine years as County Commissioner an!
d fifteen years as Justice of the Peace. He was probably the oldest man in Greene township, and his demise is deeply mourned by his family, relatives, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
