"The body of Mrs. Mattie Strickler who died at her home in Oklahoma last week, arrived in Rockville this morning and was taken by Undertaker Scott to the home of Rev. Welch, where funeral service will be held."

Rockville Republican 6-19-1901

"Mattie J. Welch, oldest daughter of Frank and Mary Welch, was born Nov. 1, 1865, and died at her home in Enid, Okla., Saturday morning, June 15, 1901, aged 36 years, 7 months and 15 days.

She was married to Geo. Strickler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Strickler, in September 1881. To them were born six children who with their father, are left to mourn the loss of a good mother and faithful wife. Deceased with her husband united with the M. E. Church in Iowa in 1893, in a meeting conducted by her father and as far as we know, she lived a consistent member of that church until her death. It was her request that her body be brought back and laid beside her mother.

The funeral services were conducted at her father's home by Revs. Kalley and Maris in the presence of many sorrowing relatives and friends, after which the body was laid to rest in the Rowe cemetery to await the resurrection morn."
