Eleanor,
Henry Clay 1777-1852 was born in Virginia and moved to Lexington,
Kentucky. He ws known as a great orator and for his skill in the art of
compromise, resolving many bitter political conflicts. He served several
terms in the House of Representatives and in the Senate. He served of Sec.
of State under President John Q. Adams. He also ran unsuccessfully for
president, three times.
People of this era often named their children after famous people. Note
the Rosses also had a George Washington, a Abraham Lincoln, and a Winfield
Taylor. I don't know where the name Martha Morton came from - probably a
family name.
