Here is a problem that I have. I have many relatives and ancestors in the
Estates of Serenity Cemetery, Marion. There is no one in the Cemetery, per
se, to advise me when things such as this occur. I have to read it in the
paper. If it were not for this group and the Marion Library Genealogy Group
I would never have heard any of this. I have no idea if any of my
relatives and ancestors graves were disturbed or not, and even if they were
who would fix them, who is responsible for that. I am assuming the current
[unknown] owner. Who do I even ask. The gravestones [and most of my family]
have all been there for many, many years, as reported by the
Chronicle-Tribune. [Mine were not in the mausoleum thankfully] $65,000 is
still a lot of damage and apparently there was a lot still being fixed up by
someone [the current owner ? "an undisclosed non-profit organization "from
the last time for another $2,000. Does anyone know who that is. Lately I
have heard that many of the stones are already is disrepair. Sinking, weeds,
and so forth.. nothing illegal so nothing can be done there apparently. The
article also said " that the Marion police were investigating and that they
have increased patrols..." Another question I have is ...Did the police ever
follow through with the cannon that were sold on eBay from that same
cemetery. ? What is going on in that part of town and who are those vandals
anyway. Can't anything be done. I am outraged. Someone must know who did
that amount of devastation... why in the world would anyone do something
such as that anyway. Surely this is more than a childish prank. Tell me
it's not just a bunch of kids. I will be really upset because that would
further suggest that appropriate security is, at the very least, not in
place.
Just my perspective.
