The home guards were given all the same status as the active duty when it came to the pensions, etc. and they were considered assigned to a specific Indiana Infintry group - but can't recall which one - but the 35th Rgmt wasn't it. According to the Adjutant General, ALL Home Guard personnel were considered as serving in the war THE SAME as those who served in the other outside regiments, and entitled to all the benefits, and were classified as the 5th Reg Ind Inf "Legion". Many of the home guard persons DID end up joining the other infantry and cavalry units and vice versa.

Was there a specific person you were trying to find in the 35th or the home guards?
