ALONZO COTTON

Alonzo COTTON, who observed his 88th birthday anniversary on February 11, died at his home in Burdick Monday after an illness of about two weeks. He had suffered a paralytic stroke.
Mr. COTTON was born near Otis in 1952 and had lived in the Burdick community all his life. He was widely known in this area, where he had been engaged in farming and of late years had lived in the town of Burdick.
On October 4, 1877, he was united in marriage to Priscilla SHANER, who survives him. Mrs. COTTON was 84 years old in October and suffered a heart attack last month. The couple were the parents of three children, two sons and a daughter, all of who have passed away. There were: Guy, who died in infancy; Bert, who died six years ago, and Mrs. Edith REED, who died fifteen years ago. Besides his wife his only living relative is a son-in-law, O. J. REED of Gary. A granddaughter, Gertrude REED, died eight years ago. He leaves a host of friends.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Flynn-Lundberg chapel. Rev. Henry M. BRAUN of the First Methodist church will officiate and burial will be in the Eight Square cemetery east of Burdick.

[Note: Otis is in New Durham Township, LaPorte County, and borders the Eight Square cemetery which sits in Pine Township. Burdick sits in Jackson Township.]
