Hi,
I stopped by a library today and looked at census indexes of Illinois looking for
Levit, Stallings and Philips. This is what I found. (I didn't list all the Philips
because I couldn't find John P. Philips)

1820 IL census
Margaret Stallians - Madison Co
John Stallion - Madison Co
Samuel Stallion - Madison Co
William Stallion - Madison Co
There was no Clay Co, IL in 1820. Madison was a large county in 1820.

1830 IL census
Benjamin Stallings - Clay Co, pg 98, line 21
Lockheart Stallings - Clay Co, pg 98, line 11
Wellis Stallings - Clay Co, pg 99, line 10
Permelia Philips - Clay Co, pg 98, line 25
Noah Levitt - Clay Co, pg 98, line 24
Thomas Levitt, sen. - Clay Co, pg 98, line 18
Thomas Levitt, jun - Clay Co, pg 97, line 19
James Levitt - Clay Co, pg 97, line 27
David Levett - Clay Co, pg 99, line 27

1840 IL census
David Levett - Clay Co, pg 117
James Levett - Clay Co, pg 117
Noah Levett - Clay Co, pg 117
Thomas Levett - Clay Co, pg 117
William Levett - Clay Co, pg 118
William Stallings - Clay Co, pg 113
Lockhart Stallings - Fayette Co, pg 174
Thos Levett - Effingham Co, pg 132

I also looked in a book of Indiana Wills and found the following.
John Philip (no s on Phillips) - Green Co, 1846, book A, pg 34
Ignatius Lovett - Posey Co, 1844, book B, pg 128
Wallace Leavitt - Dearborn Co, 1830, book A, pg 36

In another publication by theState of Kentuky I found AARON STALLINGS ( the son of
Wright Stallings) who remained in KY after everyone else moved to Posey Co, IN.
Page 281 of KENTUCKY SOLDIERS OF THE WAR OF 1812
Aaron Stallings was listed in Captain James Robison's Company of the KY Detached
Militia commanded by LtCol William Mitchusson. (spellings are as they are listed in
the book)

For you Stallings folks who are wondering how all this relates, Permelia "Melia"
Stallings (dtr of Wright Stallings) married John P. Philips in Logan Co, KY in 1810.
Permelia's dtr, Mary "Polly" Phillips, married Noah Levit. Permelia's dtr, Jemina
Phillips, married Lockhart Stallings. Permelia, etal, moved from Posey Co, IN to
Clay Co, IL after July 1828 (when Mary married Noah and Jemina married Lockhart in
Posey Co, IN in a double ceremony). (Noah Levit entered land in Clay Co, IL Feb 8
1839). (Permelia tried to divorce John P. Philips in 1822, but we're not sure if
the divorce was granted or she just left him.) There is a marriage between Permelia
"Stalings" and Thomas "Levet" 8-3-1833 "Clay County Marriages: 1825-1877; 'Old Number
1 Book'"; page 1-6, Record No. 1-29. It is a possibility that Permelia Stallings
Philips assumed her maiden name and gave it when she married Thomas Levet in 1833.
Otherwise there is another Permelia Stallings in IL we have been unable to trace!

History of Wayne & Clay County Illinois 1884, Chicago
Globe Publishing Company, Historical Publishers, 183
Lake Street:
pg. 470. "the first white settler in Pixley Township
was James Levitt who came here from Posey County,
Indiana about 1826 and settled on section 21 on the
old Louisville and Vincennes Road, near where
Buckville, afterward called Pleasant Hill, now
stands. A brother, Noah Levitt, came here shortly
afterward. He was a restless man and moved from place
to place. He finally died in this township."
pg. 470-473. "Noah Levitt entered land in 1839.
Section 22 in Pixley Township. Jacob Toliver entered
section 10 in 1841." (note: Wright Philips, son of John P. Philips and Permelia
Stallings, married Rosey Jane Toliver)

land Record NAME YEAR TRS DESC
107594 LEVITT NOAH 1841 3 4N 8E21 SWSW
107600 LEVITT NOAH 1839 3 4N 8E22 NESW

If anyone has other clues about these families, I would be very grateful.
Thank you
Wanda Pitt
