JANE HOOPS/HOOPES marr DANIEL CLARK, SR who was born in Ireland. He came to America at the request of a relative, COL. GEORGE GROGHAN, the man who accepted the surrender of PONTIAC in 1765 during the French and Indiana War. MR. CLARK received a landgrant of some 4500 acres in the Natchez Area and he was immensely wealthy. His nephew DANIEL CLARK, JR was born in Ireland in 1766. DANIEL, SR. died at Natchez in 1800. JANE HOOPES returned to the Philadelphia area, where she died in 1815. Her tombstone in LAUREL HILL CEMETERY states that she was the dau of ADAM & ELIZABETH HOOPS. DANIEL CLARK, JR received the major part of his uncle's estate. JR was a well known businessman of New Orleans, where he associated with men of doubtful character. He was elected to the US House of Rrpresentative after LA became a state. He was the alleged father of MYRA CLARK GAINES of New Orleans.
