Jeff,
Have you sent for those pension records? That is usually one of
the earliest questions answered after when and where did the veteran
serve. Another avenue would be to find one or both of the marriage
records. I'm not too familiar with the records for Scott County but
there is tons of information on the marriage records for Montgomery
County, Indiana. Some are on the GenWeb county site and more are on
the county library site. This county is my prime example of how free
access to genealogical records should be handled. Those folks know
how to do it. My second choice is Monroe County, Tennessee and they
are second only because the GenWeb site is difficult to find things
in.
