look these up and send them. The Mary I.
Carpenter who married in 1889 could be the
daughter Mary born c1869 to William and Mary
Carpenter in Spencer Co. IN in 1880. If so, then
her mother's maiden name was Carter and that is a
big clue. It appears that Spencer Co. was an
area that many people moved through, on their way
west -- the Charles T. Carpenter who married
Temple West in 1892 was from Tennessee and
settled in Kansas. So William and Mary may not
have settled there for very long.
