Hi Kathie - Can you tell me more of your Peter LeHew?  do you have the 1967 genealogical book on Peter LeHew?

I have your Peter as being the son of Francis and Leannah Taylor.
I rented the LDS film that had the guardianship for Meredith - there were 2 of them, do you want the scans?
Do you have any other children?  I've got it saying that "Either Peter of Elizabeth may have had a child by a previoius marriage, since there is a male between 10 and 16 with them on the 1820 census."

I'm actually researching Francis's brother Spencer's line (their father was Peter, and another brother too) so I'm not the best at this but I'll help as much as I can.  and any leads you might have on the Peter-Elizabeth Mitchell family would be great!!!

Here is everything I have on Peter Lehew/Lahue (and hopefully, from whom it
came...). Peter's second wife, Elizabeth, lived with my direct line
ancestor, Joseph Brown after? his wife (Susannah Carter) divorced him in
1838.

I estimated his date of death as 1837 b/c of the probate records - but could
have been earlier...

!*BIRTH*: from IGI Records - which give a place and approx. date of birth.

MARRIAGE:* Lahue, Peter - Mitchel, Elizabeth, John Shrode JP, 9-10-1818
(Marriage Records of Spencer County, Indiana, page 1)

*Note* from Spencer County, Indiana Librarian:

"I have been rereading the old probate books and remembered an entry in
Probate Book A 1833-1842,(ca 1837,) Page 166 which states that Benjamin
Romine was the guardian of Minerva Lahue, infant heir of Peter Lahue.

Just another tidbit for you.
Kris"

*NOTE*: from the book "Peter Lehew of Front Royal, Virginia and Some of
his
Descendents, Vol I" by James Huston LeHue and Edith Foster, page 34
states:
"This would also seem to be the same Peter Lehew who appears on a list of
jurors in Dearborn Co., Indiana in 1806 and 1808, and on a list of voters in
Dearborn Co. in 1809. The combination Francis Lehew-Peter Lehew shows up
again in Perry and Spencer Counties in Indiana. Peter's name appears on a
Perry County tax list in 1815, and in 1817, Francis Lehew sold land to Peter
Lehew in Perry Co. This was evidently that part of Perrry County which
became part of Spencer Co. about 1817, for their first land records in
Spencer Co. give their residence as Perry Co., while the 1820 Census shows
Peter Lehew in Spencer Co. (age 45 or over). Peter's marriage (evidently a
second marriage) to Elizabeth Mitchell on 10 September 1818 is recorded in
Spencer County. Either Peter or Elizabeth may have had a child by a previous
marriage, since there is a male between 10 and 16 with them on the 1820
census. Elizabeth is in the 26-45 age group on this census. On the 1830
census, Eizabeth is listed as the head of the family, so perhaps Peter had
died before this. He was certainly dead by 1837, when matters pertaining to
his estate came before the court in Spencer Co.. We feel sure that the
Meredith Lehue who was born about 1800 or 1801 in the Boone-Woodford Co.
area in Kentucky was a son of Peter Lehew and wife Polly (Horsley). On the
1860 Census of Trimble Co., Kentucky., Meredith Lehue's county of birth is
listed as Woodford Co., Ky. The boundaries between these two counties around
1800 were not clearly defined, and there were no other Lehews on the tax
lists in either of the two counties from 1800 to 1811 except Francis and
Peter (from 1800 to 1803). The name Meredith is one which is found on the
Taylor side of Peter's family. Children: i. Meredith Lehue, b. abt. 1800,
others???"

From: Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia:

Page 345: "At Ashby's John and Thomas Ashby, John Catlet, Peter
Leehugh
(Lehew), Moses Botts and Thomas Conway were hired as chain carriers. [1736]
The Ashbys lived on Beaverdam Run of Aquia Creek and Chopawamsic Creek
(present-day quantico Marine Corps Base) in Stafford County, Virginia. The
Botts were neighbors on Chopawamsic Creek. The Catlet, Conway and Lehew
families lived west of Ashby's on Goslin Run, Dorrells Run and Elk Run
(branches of Cedar Run) in present-day Fauquier and Prince William counties,
all located on the Brentstown Road."

Page 363: "Thomas Roy of Hampshire County and his wife, Hannah (William
Sr.'s daughter [William Hurst]) sold 165 acres of the 400-acre tract to
Francis Lehew for 50 pounds on 31 March 1785."

Ancestral File gives FGR of Peter and Elizabeth and their children (in my
Layhew binder) - unfortunately, several of their children are born after
Peter died??? So this is obviously WRONG!
