When visiting Vevay last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the
Health Department is entering death records into the computer. I was easily
able to call up a record from 1901 and get a print out of the certificate.
The transcription was accurate as I had seen the original years ago. I cannot
vouch for how far this process has gone. (And it doesn't help with the
records that were not filed in the early days.) The person working there was
great to work with and she is working her way forward in time.

I am still concerned about the conditions of court records in the basement of
the courthouse and elsewhere. I know that the first court book was completely
separate by pages when I visited and the records in the basement aren't
exactly in the best atmosphere for preserving paper.
