HENRY D. MATHERS: Was born in Washington county, O., April 25, 1844, and was a son of EDWARD and DELILAH (PETTY) MATHERS, both long ago deceased. He was united in marriage at Monitor, Ind., Nov. 24, 1875, to FLORENCE A. ARNOLD, whose parents, SIDNEY and JOHANNAH (POWERS) ARNOLD, both of whom are deceased. Four children were the issue of this union: THERESA, MYRTLE, ROLAND and FLOYD. Mrs. MATHERS was born in Frankfort, Ind. When hostilities broke out between the North and South, our subject was engaged in farming; he was enrolled, July 13, 1863, at Marietta, Ohio, as a private in Co. F, 129th O. V. I. With this Regt., he took active part in the following engagements, Green Brier, Tazwell, Cumberland Gap, Wolf's Ford, Columbus, Selma, Macon and numerous skirmishes. He was honorably discharged March 5,1864, at Camp Cleveland, Ohio, and re-enlisted September 28, 1864, at Marietta, O., in Co. H, 1st Ohio Cav. He was granted his final honorable discharge June 17, 1865, at Nashvi1!
le, Tenn. His father served in the late war in 77th O. V. I., and fell at the batttle of Shiloh for the glorious cause he had upheld. His wife's brother, FRANK belonged to 10th Ind. Bat. Comrade MATHERS is. Q. M. of Elliott Post, 160, and is also a member of F. & .A. M., he was elected trustee of Perry township, in 1888 serving four years, he is by trade a carriage maker and his address is Dayton, Indiana.
