Hi,
I am trying to find information on my g grandfather, Jacob Zuber.
Jacob was born abt 1832 in Lorraine, France (so the story goes) and came to
this country as a stow-away to avoid the French draft when he was 18. He
married Christiane Bangert in 1857 in Vanderburg Co and they lived north of
Evansville in the Darmstadt area. Christina died about 1877 and is buried
at the St. Joe Cemetery in St. Joseph, IN. Jacob and Christina had about 8
children. He and his family moved to Wayne County, IL, where he married
Hannah Gutekunst. Hannah's parents were Gottlieb Gutekunst and Hannah
Richards and they were from Baden-Wurtemburg, Germany. Hannah's last name
was Anglizised to Goodart which is what Gutekunst means in English. Hannah
had been married to Alfred Anthis and married Jacob after Alfred died.
Hannah and Jacob had one living son, Louis Zuber, in 1882 in Wayne County,
IL. Hannah and Jacob are my great grandparents. And Jacob had a half
brother, Anton, who lived with him and was older than him. I would like
any information regarding these families. I know a bit on Christina and
Hannah, but am hoping to find out more about Jacob. And there is the
possiblity that Jacob's family originally were from Switzerland or Germany.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks so much.
