Just to relate my recent experience (this summer) with obtaining a Vigo
County Death certificate......I sent in my money order for $4.00 plus
identification, and they told me it would be 4 months because they were
behind. As it turned out, although it SEEMED like four, it was 2 months,
and I received the information I needed. My only concern is that they
retyped it, not photocopied anything, and the mother's name did not match
what I found elsewhere once I had it. So then you question, did VC make a
typo, or was the info wrong, or is there a typo elsewhere...and of course I
can't seem to track the mother of this person (gg grandfather of my
daughter-in-law) to easily determine what was correct. But at least the
death certificate did take me back another generation that I had not been
able to verify - I had been right as to the father, but he had remarried, so
I didn't know the first wife's maiden name.
I have received death certificates from other counties much more quickly,
but they were also less populated counties, so probably fewer requests.
