Maggie,
If you go to Iowa City ,and it isn't Monday because they aren't open, The
Iowa Historical Library on Iowa Ave. will have most of what you are looking
for. One thing that you might look at is the 1925 Iowa Census, it gives
relationships to each person, fathers name, mothers name, and relationship
to the head of household. They have a large selection of county histories,
maps on microfilm, most of the news papers that are available on microfilm,
they also have indexes and information on other states and countries. They
have all the Iowa Federal Census on microfilm and some of the other Iowa
census besides the 1925 census. If you read German they have some
interesting German news papers that were used to tell others who had passed
away, got married, etc. both in Germany and in the United States, a sort of
old time bulletin board system. You might also try the Linn County
Geneological library which is in the basement of the Masonic Library right
on First Ave.( the main street in Cedar Rapids.)
Another possibility is the University of Iowa library in Iowa City,
they have a large selection of maps and many county histories.
Hope this helps....Steve
