I really enjoy reading all the messages on this site;
have never found any informaiton relevant to my family
but I have learned a lot of other things. Is anyone
familiar with the Amana Colonies of Iowa? It's my
understanding that they were made up of German
immigrants. I would like to find out more about them;
i.e. when they were settled etc. I'm trying to
establish when my ancestors immigrated from Germany.
I know that Wilhelm/William was in Adair, Ia. by 1896
and am wondering if he was in the Amana Colnies prior
to that. Exact immigration date from Germany to U.S.
is unknown but was after 1878.
My German ancestors were:
John Schalow> Wilhelm/William Schalow b. 1845 m.to
....Damann> Herman Schalow b.1878 m. to Anna Luebke
All of the above were born in Mecklenburg, Germany

Thanks for any help.
