Actually no one did, most said by foot, horse w/wagon, train, horseback, you have a good point though.
Thanks for all the replies though all was helpful. I wasen't sure if all the railroad tracks were laid all the way to Oregon by then. I've searched and even signed up to a rootsweb railroad mailing list.
