Hi,
Last fall I made a trip to Nova Scotia and was told beforehand that I needed authorization to view the Catholic church records at the local archives. I wrote to the diocese and received a letter authorizing me to see them. When I got to the archives, there was already a letter there from the diocese who had sent a copy to me and to the archives.
I think it would be a very good idea to get one. You don't want to get there and be unable to use them. Write the National Library or wherever you intend to search and ask for the address you need. They should be able to give you the information. I don't know how long it would take but I would look for an email address for all. It would be much quicker.

Good questions, and something others searching from outside the confines of
England and Irelnd would be grateful for a clear answer - especially those
of us who do not belong to the Catholic Church in later generations.
