Hullo there,
I am researching a FLEMING family in Tasmania, Australia, and wondered
if anyone on the list would be able to help me out with the place of
birth and/or parentage of George W FLEMING, b1832 location unknown,
and his wife, Maria DONOHUE (O'DONOHUE/DONOGHOU/DENEHEY etc).
They were married in Hobart, Tasmania, on 05 September 1864.
George was the owner and licensee of several pubs in Hobart, died 27
July 1907 in Hobart, and is buried in the Catholic section, Cornelian
Bay Cemetery, Hobart, in a family vault.
George is said to have raised the Irish flag every St Patrick's Day at
the Queen's Arms Hotel in Harrington St, Hobart, so I strongly suspect
he might have been born in Ireland.
Maria DONOHUE b1844 is the daughter of Anne Mary DENEHEY (Anne Mary is
buried in the Hobart family vault under that name) who was born in
Ireland about 1818 and died 26th August 1891, most likely in Hobart. I
do not know her husband's first name, nor if he came out to Australia
with his wife or died back in Ireland.
Maria herself died in 1894 in Hobart.
George and Maria FLEMING's children were all born in Hobart and are as follows:
