Hi Eileen - My cousin Mark and I have been researching our Toomey's who came from County Tipperary to Cohoes NY in the mid 1800's. While some stayed there, others went to the Fall River MA area. In looking in Ireland, Mark discovered a possible link to Limerick, based on an unusual family first name.
The first name Kennedy is prominent throughout our generations. We do know that the last name Kennedy is prominent in Tipperary, so perhaps a maiden name was adopted as a first name.
The first name "Kennedy" first "officially" appears in our family @ 1830, but may go back at least one more generation, and possibly further since it seems to have been of some importance.
I would be interested in any Toomey's in Tipperary, Waterford, and Limerick, and especially those named Kennedy or Peter who you may come across anywhere.
If you see any connection, or are interested in any of the info we have, please feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
Susan in Daytona Beach

Have info on their descendants but only names and some residences (done by letter and word of mouth), show up in Limerick, Dublin, Brussels, Mass., Chicago, N.J., England, S. Africa. Would be glad to share with anyone searching Toomey.
