Limerick.

On Sunday, July 6th, the Rev. James HUMPHREYS, who for six years past
has had the spiritual charge of St. John's Catholic Church, Beverley,
Yorkshire, England, and who has been recalled to Limerick by his
diocesan, took leave of his flock. He was not, however, allowed to
leave the town without some token of the high esteem in which he was
held, and on the following Tuesday evening he was invited to attend a
meeting in the schoolroom, where Dr. CROKE, on behalf of his friends,
presented him with a handsomely illuminated and framed address, a gold
guard and gold locket.

Patrick RYAN, a printer, aged 16 years, was on Friday evening, July 4,
accidentally drowned while swimming off the Island Bank, Limerick.

On the morning of July 9th a valuable horse, the property of the Knight
of Glen, was found dead, having been destroyed by some means or other
during the night. Two others were mutilated, one of them dangerously.
No motive is assigned for the outrage, and the local National League,
at a a specially convened meeting, offered £50 reward for any
information that would lead to the conviction of the perpetrator of the
wanton deed.

There was an immense run of salmon peale up the Shannon during the first
week in July, and the fishermen had the largest hauls of fish recorded
for several years past. Some of the boats captured 200 fish, weight
from four to ten pounds each, and had the busiest time of it since the
season opened. The peale was selling at 7d per pound wholesale.

Another laborer, named William DELEE, was evicted on July 7th, at the
instance of the Newcastle West Board of Guardians for non-payment of
rent. Under the Laborers' Dwelling Act, DELEE occupied a cottage in the
townland of Boola. The makes the third eviction of this kind.

A man named CONNORS, a carpenter by trade, and of intemperate habits,
was maliciously struck on the forehead with a stone in the Main Street
of Bruff on the evening of July 6th. A boy named FARRELL, who it is
alleged struck the blow, has been arrested. CONNORS remains in a
precarious condition.
