Piggy-backing your comment.....on "discriminating against Blacks in the South". I was born & raised in VA(1930s); a dear friend of mine from the Cleveland,OH area, anytime this subject comes up says..." we did not have any discrimination problems when I was growing up (Ohio-1030s). The Blacks could work any place they wanted, during the day....they just we not allowed in our town after the sun went down." Good example of where the discrimination was going on!......most everywhere people lived. wre ******************************************************************** garymair <> wrote:Thanks to everyone on the list for expressing their opinions regarding the
"Black Irish". It certainly initiated my interests - anyone else who is
interested should enter "Black Irish" on their web browser. There are many
many sites which confirm the many idea's and opinions of the respondents to
the list.

One that I found very interesting discussed the "Irish Slaves" who were sent
to Barbados and some of the other British Islands under the orders of
Cromwell under the order of the British Crown.

I asked my mom about the Black Irish, and she reminded me of our visit to
Ireland about 20 years ago and many of the people in Galway Bay were Dark
Haired and looked Italian and still spoke Gaelic and were referred to as the
"Black Irish".

My grandfather spoke of the Irish, Indians, and Chinese, building the
Railroads, Bridges, ect, and many many died in their professions and that
the "Americans"??? would not do the same work or had better positions???

Based upon my experience we were always taught that the African American's
have very little to complain about regarding slavery as the Irish, Chinese,
ect, had the same consequences if not worse, however, the Africans have had
a better effort in modern times at making this an issue.

During the Famine Year's, there were signs in New York City -"No Irish
Allowed" and they were very discriminated against, probably to the same
degree as the Black's were in the South!!!

In my informal research regarding all of the slavery both white and black, I
have found that Britain was the main cause for both.

I mentioned a couple of earlier beliefs and explanations for the Black Irish
in my previous correspondence. Another consideration is the biblical
prophesy that the Irish were the lost tribe of Israel as explained in
biblical terms and the prophesy. Especially considering the Wrath that the
Irish experienced at the hands of the British even early on which may or may
not continue today depending upon who you talk to - Protestant or Catholic
or North or South????
