There is a very interesting story in this week's Irish Echo newspaper. You
can access it by going to Irish Echo and the story is online. An
Archeological team is carrying out excavation work beside a suburban Philadelphia
rail line looking for the place where 57 Irish railroad workers worked and died
in 1832. They have not uncovered any bones yet but have found belt buckles
etc.
They are attempting to trace the records of these men back to Ireland and
think they were skilled workers who arrived on the "john Stamp" from Tyrone,
Derry and Donegal. It is possible they died during the cholera epidemic. The
place they are buried is "Duffy's Cut".
Maybe if anyone has a connection to any of these men, they could contact the
team and offer some information. Judy
