If you can find them in the 1900 census you will find a date of immigration
as well as a month and year of birth that could help you narrow down your
search period. Keep in mind that people did not always have an accurate
date of birth. My great great grandfather's headstone in Wisconsin, as well
as other records had his birth date as Nov 1830, however, I was lucky enough
to find his baptismal record from the church in Ireland which had his
baptismal date as Jan 2 1823.

Good luck.

Subject: [Irish-American] Roll Call - Coyne

I think I am the lucky 500th subscriber since I subscribed only last night.
Do I win a prize?

Anyway, I am looking for information on my maternal great grandfather,
Lawrence Coyne. According to oral family hisotry he had been a Constable in
Ireland before emigrating to the United States.

He married a woman name Katherine Burke, also an Irish immigrant. They
settled in Malden Massachusetts where Lawrence became a member of the Malden
Police Department.

I do not know where in Ireland Lawrence came from or exactly when he
emigrated to the USA, but it had to be somtime between approximately 1865
and 1880. My grandmother was born in Malden MA in November 1886. The only
documentation I have been able to find regarding Lawrence and Kate Coyne was
on my grandmother's birth certificate. All that showed was their names and
country of origin.

I look forward to hearing from members of the group.
