There was an excellent program on Public Television last night.
"African-American Lives" chronicals the lives of African-Americans after slavery in
America. They used some very prominent people as examples. Oprah, Whoopie Goldberg
and several more were shown their ancestor's roots. In one example, a family
story had a former slave being given money by her former owner because he was
the father of her children. They tracked down cousins of the Irish-American
man {his name was BRADY} and did DNA which proved that the story was not true.
There is to be a second part where they trace their heritage back to Africa
with the help of DNA> It was three hours but just fascinating! JUDY
