Hi Meg,

It's Breithlá Sona Duit! (Birthday Happy To You!) There is no 'h' after the 'S' in Sona despite what you might see from non-speakers.

Different Irish dialects have different pronunciations just like when we're talkin' Merican, but a good, simple, American phonetic for it would be

BRAYLAW SONAH DIT

Hope that's helpful. - Jerry

Hello listers,

Would anyone know how to write and/or pronouce Happy Birthday in the
Irish language? We have family from Ireland visiting, one of whom is
celebrating a birthday and I would love to know how to say the phrase and
surprise him.

Thank you!

Meg Mulvey
