Mary==Northern Ireland is comprised of the 6 counties of Ireland which remained in union with Great Britain after the Irsh War of Independence. The 6 counties--Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Tyrone, and Fermanagh--were separated from the other 26 in the early 1920's. Hence, you will see in the 1930 census the terms Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State as places of birth
