Mike,
Quirke/Quirk makes you think it is uncommon until you start doing research. It is a Co. Tipperary/ Clan William name. Of course they eventually scattered over Ireland. Quirk is also a Manx name. Long ago (about the year 1000 AD) some Irish Quirks migrated to the Isle of Man per a Manx name book.

So while I do not think Julia Quirk, b.1841 d. 1873 "Native of Ballylanders, CO. Limerick, Ireland" in A Roman Catholic Cem in Naugatuck, CT is mine, I am glad she has been posted and possibly will be found.

Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary:
Found your James Power Colony data most informative. Tell me, is Quirk a
relatively uncommon surname? I was just wondering as I've located a
gravestone bearing the name, Julia Quirk, b.1841 d. 1873 "Native of
Ballylanders, CO. Limerick, Ireland" in A Roman Catholic Cem in Naugatuck,
CT.
She was the w. of Roland Dalton (1834-1869) "Native of CO. Kilkenney,
Ireland." Also, Julia A., their dau (1859-1878). Wondering if perhaps a poss
connection with your fam.
