I would argue that the 700 years of continuous and instititional English oppression and tyranny would be sufficient to make anyone that was able, leave their homeland. You can pretty much give this reason for the vast majority that came to America since the begining of our nation.

Subject: [IRISH-AMER] The years before the great famine

Can someone tell me about the years of 1836 and 1839.?I have two brothers who came separately to the US in these years and I don't know why. Was there an earlier bout of something that would compel them to leave Ireland? They seemed well educated for the day.
