The Celtic Tiger
Well I'm writing this letter, to seek your assistance
In a field I'm told you know well,
For there's a Godawful beast that's got out of its cage
And the story I here will you tell
For I've spent all me life working farm and in factory
A pound and a pint to enjoy
Now the pound it is gone and the Euro's installed
And the life I loved being destroyed.
(chorus)
Oh Barnum and Bailey please come o'er to Dublin
The Circus for to see
And Please bring the lion -tamer with you
For this Celtic Tiger's got me.
Well they tell me we've passed both the Yanks and the Swiss
With their dear economies
But our dear little island's divided in two
And we're missing six counties
And they tell me this land that I've worked all me life
Is now worth its weight in gold
But me children won't farm it and we'll lose the whole island
As for building sites its sold
Chorus
Now our dear Gaelic language is taken for granted
Throughout this count-a-ree
And may soon be replaced by a bland form of English
Or even Ro-man-y
And though I welcome the beautiful ladies of Asia
Who nurse us back to health
I believe that we're losing the soul of our nation
In blind pursuit of wealth
Chorus
Now me kids eat "French Fries" that they get at "McDonald's"
And watch their MTV
And I wonder if the life I'd imagined for them
Could become reality
For brave men gave their lives back in 19 and 16
So our children could be free
But our own native culture is being forsaken
For Global Economy!!!
Oh Barnum and Bailey please come o'er to Dublin
The Circus for to see
And please bring the lion -tamer with you
For this Celtic Tiger's got me!
