Purcell, Richard, of No. 728 Centre Avenue, died on Friday of last
week in the 78th year of his age. He was a native of Co. Tipperary,

Quigley, Dan, born March 25, 1851, died May 17, 1905, native of
Castletown, Co. Tipperary

Quigley, James Edward (Archbishop) born in Oshawa, Ontario on Oct. 15,
1854, the son of James Quigley of Carrigatogher, Parish of Burgesbeg,
Co. Tipperary and Mary Lacy of the same place. The Archbishop's
grandparents were Martin Quigley and Elizabeth Kelly on his paternal
side; and John Lacy and Judy Carroll on his maternal side. The records
of St. Gregory's Church in Oshawa reveal several brothers and sisters
of his parents in Oshawa as early as 1844. He was elevated to the
Chicago see in 1903, and died in 1915 in Rochester, NY at the home of
his brother, Joseph Quigley, Chief of the Rochester Police Dept.

Quigley, John born 1821 in Co. Tipperary, probably the parish of
Castletownarra, married Honora Cooney, and emigrated in the year 1849
to Chicago, where he was engaged all his life in the blacksmith trade
on the west side of Chicago. His first shop was on Randolph street
near Canal, in partnership with Edward Kerwin, and later with William
Hunt on west Madison near Desplaines. He was said to be a near
relative of Archbishop Quigley. He and his wife, had eleven children;
six of whom left descendants: namely, Mrs. Honora Mackey, Mrs.
Margaret Conroy, Mrs. Mary Canty, Mrs. Ellen Solon, Mrs. Frances
Schaefer, and Edward C. Quigley. He was a member of the Montgomery
Guards, an Irish military organization, and acquired a considerable
sum of property prior to his death on Jan. 7, 1898. His wife preceeded
him in death by four years.

Quinlan, William, a resident of Chicago more than forty years, at St.
Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Cashel, Co. Tipperary and came to
the U.S. when quite young. During most of his residence in Chicago he
lived at 421 S. Canal st. He retired twelve years ago. He resided for
a short time when he first came to America in New Haven, CN His
nephew, James Quinlan and niece, Nellie H. Quinlan of New Haven, came
to Chicago to attend the funeral which occured from Holy Family Church
to Calvary. -March 12, 1904

Quirk, Bridget, has erected this stone in memory of her niece, Ellen
Cary, native of Co. Tipperary, died Aug. 20, 1870 (?); Section N

Quirk, Capt. Daniel W., died Tuesday at his residence, 1013 W.
Madison. He was born near Toomevara, Co. Tipperary about 55 yrs. ago
and came to the U.S. in early manhood. He leaves a wife and one
daughter, Mrs. John McVeigh, of No. 1011 W. Lake st. Funeral occured
from St. Malachy's Church to Calvary -Jan. 21, 1892  His brother
Bartholomew Quirk, was an old resident of Chicago having settled here
in the 1840's. He was married in 1856, and when the Civil War broke
out he joined the Union army and where he served three and one half
years, resigning with the rank of Captain. He returned to Chicago and
engaged in the contracting business. In the early days he was a
voluntee fireman, and later he served as a member of the city council
for two terms. He retired from business about 1896 and resided with
his wife and daughter at 958 Park ave at the time of is death. One of
his daughters, Mrs. Lawrence J. Reed resided at 1383 Washington Blvd.

Reardon, Eliza, nee Cushing, mother of Patrick Reardon Jr., at resid.,
162 Hastings st., native of Parish Solohead, Co. Tipperary. Funeral

Reedy, James W., died rather suddenly at his home in Ravenswood last
Thursday. He was in his 45th year. He was born near Traveston, Co.
Tipperary and came to America in early youth. He was alway successful
in his business ventures and was held in high esteem. His health began
to fail him a few years ago. He visited Ireland in the hopes of
restoring it, but the change produced no perceptable improvement and
gradually declined. Mr. Reedy was married to Miss Kelly, a popular
young lady of the North Division about five years ago. -Oct. 15, 1889

Ryan, Catherine, widow of the late Philip, died at her home after a
brief illness of pneumonia last week. She was born Catherine Hogan at
Ballinaclough, near Nenagh, Co. Tipperary over 50 years ago and came
to America in her youth. She married early in life and a daughter and
two sons survive her. One of her sons served with credit in the U.S.
Navy during the war with Spain and is now a resident of Chicago. -May

Ryan, Daniel J., at his residence, 214 Rush st. of pneumonia, a native
of Newport, Co. Tipperary, he was married to the daughter of Mr.
Thomas Crawford, an old resident of Chicago. Funeral occured from Holy

Ryan, Daniel W., alderman of the 14th ward, was born in Co. Tipperary
in 1843. In 1856 he emigrated to the U.S., coming alone to Waterford,
Saratoga Co., NY where an elder brother resided. He remained in
Waterford three years, during which time he learned the cooper's
trade. In 1859 he removed with a sister to Mt. Sterling, IL. The
following year he went to Peoria and in 1861 to Chicago. In 1862 he
enlisted in Co. V, 1st Ill. Artillery, and served in the battles of
Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge. After the latter
engagement he followed the fortunes of General Sheridan in his march
through Georgia, participating in all of the battles of the Atlanta
campaign as far as Jonesborough. In 1874 he was once again engaged in
the coopering business, and was for eight years located at Rawson st.
and for one year at 19 Coventry st. Here Mr. Ryan did a large and
prosperous business in the manufacture of barrels for distillers and
rectifiers, employing fifty hands. He was married in Chicago in May,
1881, to Agnes E. Donovan, and they had four children, Mamie, Agnes,
Daniel W., Jr., and Cornelius Ryan. In 1884, he was the Republican
candidate for alderman in the 14th ward, but was defeated. In 1886 he
ran successfully for the same seat.

Ryan, Frank J., State Senator, died in Chicago on Jan. 22, 1926. He
was born in Co. Tipperary, Ireland on March 30, 1860. He was educated
in Ireland and entered the publishing industry there before coming to
Chicago as a young man. He was elected in 1909 as a Democrat to the
Illinois House of Representatives and served five consecutive terms.
He married Margaret Day, and had two sons: John V., and Gerald; and
four daughters, of whom one was a Sr. of the Order of St. Dominic.

Ryan, Michael, died Jan. 31. He was born near Nenagh, Co. Tipperary in
1846, but was left fatherless at the age of three. In his early teens
he came to America and learned the plumbing trade in Cincinatti. In
1865 he married Annie Feeney of Coventry, KY. Shortly after he came to
Chicago. For many years together with his brother, Thomas, he headed a
prosperous plumbing establishment. In 1874 he was elected Alderman of
the 14th ward and served seven terms. -Feb. 11, 1905

Ryan, Thomas, May 1, 1900, at his residence, 1852 Milwaukee ave., aged
56 yrs., a native of Silvermines, Co. Tipperary. At an early age he
came to America and first settled in Cincinatti where he learned the
plumbing trade. About 1866 he went to St. Joseph, MO where in 1869 he
married Bridget A. Gleason. He came to Chicago in 1870 and became a
partner with his brother--Michael Ryan, who afterward became a member
of the Chicago City council. Eight years ago he retired, and this past
winter he went to Los Angeles in search of better health, and was
stricken with paralysis on his way homeward. The funeral occured from
St. Sylvester's Church to Calvary. The pallbearers included: James J.,
Michael F., and Robert E. Ryan, nephews, and Charles Strubbe, Patrick
Bailey, and Peter Fox. -May 19, 1900

Ryan, Thomas C., Aug. 9, 1892, son of John and the late Catherine, and
brother of John, Daniel and Mary Ryan, and nephew of Thomas Ryan,
native of Parish of Dean (Doon?), Co. Tipperary, aged 23 yrs., 7 mos.
Funeral from resid., 30 - 38th ct. to Nativity Church to Calvary.

Ryan, Thomas H., a citizen of Parkside, died at his residence of
consumption on Tuesday. He was born near Nenagh, Co. Tipperary 39
years ago, and came to this country while quite young. He was
conductor of the Hyde Park dummy line, but about 15 years ago joined
the Hyde Park Police Force. He served with great credit until his
disease overtook him a year ago. Mr. Ryan leaves a widow and seven
children. The latter are mostly of tender years. He was a member of
the Independant Order of Forresters. The interment took place at Mt.
Olivet cemetery on Thursday. Deceased was a brother of the popular
Capt. Patrick Ryan of Hyde Park. -Oct. 8, 1887

Ryan, Timothy, alderman fo the 14th ward, was born in Co. Tipperary
March 20, 1842. He arrived in the U.S. with his parents in 1848,
settling in Utica, NY where he attended the public schools. In 1856
the family moved to Detroit, and after one year's residence there
settled in Chicago. At the age of 16 he engaged in the tanning and
wool business with Christian Cassellman; remaining eight years. He
then went to San Francisco and engaged in the same business there for
himself, remaining nearly six years when he returned to Chicago. In
1868 he became foreman for Reed & Sherwin in the packing house and
wool business, after acting in this capacity for 16 mos. he
established a glove and mitten manufactory, and conducted it for nine
years. In politics he was a Democrat, serving on the County Democratic
Central committee and was an outspoken advocate of political reforms.

Ryan, William, an old and honored citizen of Hyde Park, died Nov. 3,
aged 64 yrs. He was born in Co. Tipperary, the son of Michael Ryan and
Catherine Gleason. His early training was in the little church and
school-house in the village of Silvermines, Co. Tipperary. He listened
with fervor to the teachings of Rev. Joseph McGrath and that
illustrious patriot Rev. John Kenyon. He witnessed the scenes of
desolation and death during the famine of 1846-49. His mother being
left a widow by the plague and deprived of a large share of her
holdings by the equally ruthless landlord, William Ryan like many
thousands of young Irishmen similarly afflicted, sought a home in free
America. After spending about eight years in Cincinatti he came to
Chicago in 1866. -Nov. 16, 1901
