I got this census free online where I found my great uncle-Thomas Gough who emigrated from Dublin in 1916. However I cannot access much info there. How would I get his education status?

Have noticed a very nice feature of the 1940 census, in that it shows the number of years of education a person had. For those with immigrant ancestors, that gives some insight into life in the "old country." Two of my Irish grandparents said they had 8 years, the other two only 4 and 3. All were born in the 1870s, emigrated in the 1890s.
