Subject: GLEASON's in Philadelphia---down a black hole?
Date: Wed, 05 Jul 2006 11:01:33 -0400
My grandmother´s family disappeared down a black hole since coming
to Philadelphia. There must be some living descendants.
My grandfather married a fellow immigrant from Tipperary
named ANNE GLEASON She came to Philadelphia in 1889, one year
after her bother MICHAEL GLEASON. Another younger sister,
ELIZABETH GLEASON, also came to Philly but that date is
unknown.
Michael was a bartender for GEORGE DUNN at 2565 N. 19th
and worked with fellow bartender KAVIN NOLAN (1900 US Census)
but by 1910 was a saloon owner (1910 US Census). He married
Margaret (or Catherine) Nee? About 1903. The 1919 Philadelphia City
Directory lists Michael as a "bartender." But the 1920 US Census has
him a "newspaper typist," living on Judson St. Sometime between
1920 and 1930 he died since the 1930 Census has his eldest son Daniel
as Head of Household.
Residences:
2565 N. 19th St. (1900-with George Dunn)
1113 North 16th St. (1910)
2715 Judson St. (1920)
2308 W. Somerset St. (1930--son Daniel)
Children:
DANIEL GLEASON (1904-?) Bookkeeper in
bank
THOMAS GLEASON ( 1907-?) Newspaper
typesetter
MARGARET GLEASON (1908-?)
MADELINE GLEASON (July, 1917)
I am being detailed in the hope that someone will recognize this
family. Thanks in advance for any information or search hints.
Cousin Bill (Ryan)
