Subject: [IRISH IN ST. LOUIS] Obits copied to other cities

"Please copy" is exactly what they did. However, there was a reason for that line. Let my tell you a story.
My gf was Michael CLARKE, died in 1908 in St. Louis. His obit included the Denver and New York papers please copy. I didn't understand it initially but I had lost James CLARKE (the witness to Mike's marriage) after the 1900 Census in St. Louis. I began to look at the Denver 1910 census the is not indexed so I never did find James. The IGI had both James' and Mike's marriages. Then, James' children were added to the IGI. Several years ago, an email came across a mailing list with the following subject line: "James Clarke m Mary CONLON, 1883, St. Louis." The writer was the grandson of James and Mary so we began exchanging information and family pictures.
Then, another email came about a CLARKE grandmother in upstate New York.
After gathering data we learned that the two email writers both descended from Patrick CLARKE who was the brother of Mike's father.
I am a great fan of mailing lists now. Use the subject line so that the reader can immediately know the subject of your message.
