This is going to be a post of personal opinion. When Otherdays first
went on line, I subscribed for a year or so and I was thrilled to have
not only the Griffith's Valuation on line but a good search engine and I
was happy to opine on the various mailing list about the value of this
subscription program to Irish genealogy.

About a year ago, I checked out Irish Origins, now called
OriginsNetwork. At the time monetarily they were organized by using a
system of credits that were hard to figure out. However, their
Griffith's Valuation was so much easier to navigate than Otherdays.
Plus, if you wanted to save and/or print a page of the GV, their copies
were clean and sharp compared to the dark copies of Otherdays. Both
have the GV maps, and again, Origins are easier to navigate. Origins
also has a couple of databases, including 1851 Dublin City census, some
passenger lists, etc., but not many. BTW, a few months ago, they
switched from the credits subscription program to a time (day, month,
year) subscription program and I joined for a year at a reasonable price.

While both programs do offer different databases other than the GV,
Otherdays has far more. Most, however, are directories, which are
helpful genealogically if your ancestors had an occupation other than
occupiers (farmers) of land like mine were. They were not mentioned in
the directories. These directories are not like the directories I have
found in the states, where they mention everyone living in a town/city,
no matter what their occupation was. They also have some County Clare
records and a few more databases that are helpful.

So, I guess what your needs are, will determine which program is most
helpful for your Irish research. I think this list is a good place to
discuss both programs. I would like others who have experience with
either and/or both programs, to express their opinion and experience
with the programs. I feel bad for those subscribed to Otherdays and
feel the owners of the company have been negligent in not keeping the
subscribers informed about the problems they have and are still
experiencing. They have a database of all the subscribers' email
addresses and it doesn't seem like it would have been such a hardship
for them to send progress reports to their subscribers.
