Subject: [Irish-in-UK] Surviving 1851 Census Returns of Ireland
Date: Thu, 12 Jul 2007 12:50:17 -0400

Catching up on a backlog of e-mails ... I note several references made
... on different Irish web-sites ... to the fact that all other census
for Ireland ... prior to 1901 ... were destroyed by fire during the
civil war in 1922.

Possibly the following reference has been posted before ... but I have
not seen it during my several months of monitoring different Irish
lists ... so may I be excused for possibly referencing it again ...
for others who are also new to the different postings.

While researching something else ... I hit upon this terrific web-site
... [Isn't this the way it always happens!]

<www.ogsottawa.on.ca/irishcensus1851/OttawaBranchOGS1851CensusReturnsListing1994.PDF>

By clicking onto the above ... it should bring up what remains of the
Surviving 1851 Census Returns of Ireland.

I won't go into a lot of detail ... as everything is ALL clearly explained
within that web-site ... but the Ottawa branch of the Ontario
Genealogical Society got their hands on the above ... transcribed it
... and put it on line ... FREE!

NOTE TO ALL RESEARCHERS: The key words here are ... "what remains of"
the 1851 Census!

There is an excellent Index at the end ... but, as usual, don't
confine or restrict your search in the spelling! KEEP YOURSELF
OPEN-MINDED RE SPELLING!

Again, I trust this public piece of research material will benefit others.
This is the fun part ... finding a gem you have long been looking for!

Good Luck to all!

P.S. If for some reason the above does NOT automatically come up and
bring you to the OGS 1851 Census ... go to GOOGLE ... and simply type
in "Surviving 1851 Census Returns of Ireland".
