Hi Glenys in Australia - I see you and others have contributed more details
to the Rootsweb free pages website and this webpage:
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~garter1/woodshen.htm

Apparently Henry WOODS enlisted in Armagh. Wonder if that county/town was
where his parents lived?

The majority of the given names in your post leads me to believe they were
most likely Protestant.

There is an informative website on Castleblayney and the BLAYNEY surname

http://keithblayney.com/Blayney/CastleBlayney.html

Reads in part:: Other than times when sectarian and religious violence
polarised the loyalist and Protestant BLAYNEY Lords and the largely Catholic
and Republican local population, the relationship between the local
population and the BLAYNEY landowners tended to be co-operative and
supportive, unlike many other landowners. The latter Lords built both
Protestant and Catholic churches as well as supporting schools and an
almshouse for the poor.

I see you have already discovered the Rootsweb Monaghan boards and have you
checked the archived records on the Rootsweb Co. Monaghan e-mail list?

The Woods (Sheridan, etc.) surnames are mentioned in "The Monaghan Story,"
by Peadar Livingstone.

There is a reference book on the WOODS surname by authors J. R. Woods and L.
C. Baxter, "William and Eliza Woods of Co. Antrim, their descendants, and
some allied families," published in Baltimore, MD, in 1984, a copy of which
can be found in the National Library in Dublin shelf no. Ir. 9292 w 22.

There apparently is a Castleblayney Rent Book (1772) with some data in a
resource called the "Clogher Record," in Vol. X, No. 3. No landlord is
given, but you might some helpful reference. There is also a Castleblayney
Poor Law Rate Book (1847), in the "Clogher Record," Vol. 5, No. 1. Whether
or not these would be of help to you or another lister, I don't know.
