Mark McGauley (father to J. Margaret McGauley):
Born: March 1848, in Ireland
Died: 29th of October 1918, Handy Township, Livingston County, Michigan. From death certificate; Volume 2, record #214, Martin McGauley, died October 29th, 1918, listed as widow, age 72 years, 7 months, and 2 days, born in Ireland to Patrie McGauley, and Mary McDonald, died from bronchitis, is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, in Fowlerville, Livingston County, Michigan. (He is listed as Martin, since he is buried with his son Mark, I presume this is the senior Mark.)
1870 census, Calumet, Houghton County, Michigan: McGauley, Mark age 26 years, born in Ireland, father is foreign born, his occupation is laborer, wife Evangelia age 23, born in Michigan, her father is not listed as foreign born and daughter Margaret age 2, born in Michigan, her father is foreign born.
1880 census, Gaines Township, Genesee County, Michigan:McGauley, Mark born 1844, born in Ireland as were his parents, wife Evangeline born 1842, in Michigan, parents were born in New York, daughter Maggie born 1868, daughter Mary age 9, son Edwin age 6 and son Mark Jr. age 5, all children born in Michigan.
1900 census, Gaines Township, Genesee County, Michigan:McGauley, Mark born March 1848 in Ireland, became a United States citizen in 1868, occupation is farmer, wife Evangeline born April 1842, in Michigan, son James born June 1882, son Matthew born June 1881, daughter Isabell born January 1885. all children were born in Michigan. Census also states that Mark has been in the country 32 years, and married for 33 years. Evangeline had 8 children with 7 living.
1910 census; he is found in Handy Township, Livingston County, at the age of 27, born in Michigan, wife Lala age 17, born in Michigan, brother Mathew age 26, and father Mark age 67, born in Ireland.
Marriage to Evangelia French on the 20th of February 1867 in Genesee County, record number 0183, volume 03, page 83. This certifies that Mark McGauley of Gaines, Genesee County being about twenty-three years of age and Evangilia French being about 19 years of age were united in matrimony on the 20th day of February 1867 at the residence, Mundy, Genesee County, Michigan, in the presence of the subscribing witnesses and by the undersigned officiating Justice of the Peace. Witnesses Everett & Margarett VanBuskisks. Recorded April 5th, 1867.
Naturalization Records in Michigan Archives in Lansing: Index to RG 81-44, Genesee Co., Records, McGauley, Mark B4, F10, .T, .T nd V6, P21. .F, .T; Mark McGauley being duly sworn in open Court, deposes and says that he is of the age of 49 years and is a native of Ireland and that he came to the State of Michigan from Canada and for five years and upwards, last past, to-wit: 30 years he has lived continuously within and under the jurisdiction of United States, and that for five years and upwards last past, it has been his bona fide intention to become a Citizen of the United States, and that he heretofore on 30th day of November A.D. 1868, declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States, as appears by the annexed certified copy of the said declaration of intentions, and that he has never borne any hereditary title, nor has been of any of the orders of Nobility in the Kingdom or State from which he come. Signed Mark McGauley on the 30th of day of March 1895.
