Hello list,
My husband's family BYRNE originated in Bagenalstown and I have records of them since 1798. I wondered if there is a local town historian that I could get in touch with who might be able to tell me about any of them. The direct line of the family is as follows:
James Byrne born 1798 married Eliza Brennan had 13 children:
Denis b. 1823
Brigid b. 1824
Michael b. 1825 became priest went to England
Mary b. 1827 died young
John b. 1829 married Susan Whelan had 11 children who stayed in Bagenalstown area
Thomas b. 1830 died young
Elizabeth b. 1835
Mary b. 1835
Patrick b. 1837 became doctor moved to England
he had a son Denis who founded our family wine merchants business in Clitheroe, Lancashire (D. Byrne & Co.)
Anne b. 1839
Ellen b. 1839
Thomas b. 1840 became priest
James b. 1842 married Mary Delaney
We still have relatives in the area - near Gowran Castle, but thought there might be a local family historian who it would be worth while talking to.
thank you very much,
Judith Byrne, Clitheroe Lancs.
