Dinn Ri is a huge place where you can eat and drink to your hearts
content. It is fast food but great quality and very reasonable. It
has a great atmosphere and it is always bustling with locals. We
used it because it had been recommended but also as it was easy to
get a quick meal; we never seemed to have any time to spare. It is
located just at the back of Tullow Street next to the car park. You
can't miss it. You can also find it from Tullow Street by walking
through a shopping arcade. It is only about 100 yards down the
road from the library. Speaking of the library, from memory it is
opened from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Closes for an hour at lunch
time and reopens at 2:00pm until 5:30pm. A lot of places close
for lunch in Ireland, something that never happens here in Oz, but
you get used to after a while and even look forward to the break.
If you want to use the micro film readers at the library, you have
to book ahead. I think there are only a couple. Unfortunately the
email address I have for the library isn't working, so if anyone has
one that does, please let me know.
The video is also available from the Tourist Information Shop, next
to the Library. Yes, there is a CD as well. If deciding between the
two, go for the video. It is spec tactfully beautiful with all the shots
being filmed exclusively in Carlow. The CD music is exactly the
same but you miss all the beautiful scenery.
Try to locate a map of the town and all the streets, it would be
useful at the time and then you could help us out on the list if anyone
is looking for a particular street.
I checked out the sites you mentioned, they look very useful. I've
taken note of them. My only comment is that the accommodation does
not provide any rate, it would be useful to know in advance.
Regarding fuel, depending on how long you are there for, it won't amount
to much. I was really surprised at how little we spent on fuel. We drove
1200 miles in Carlow in two weeks and I think it was only about 100 IP
for the two weeks. The driving around the county is often fairly slow so
you don't burn too much fuel. If you go too fast you miss out on all the
beautiful scenery. The number of times we all said "Oh, isn't beautiful",
were too many to count. If you are driving along slowly, it is a good idea to
put your blinker on, and pull off to the left and let the other traffic past,
the locals really appreciate it.
Hope this is helpful.
