Donald,

This is exactly the result I was looking for in my various searches! It looks like my father and your mother are cousins! Now if that isn't exciting, I don't know what is! I'm sorry to say my father died last year at the age of 85, or he would be as interested as I am. However, he never made any attempts to trace his family, and didn't even know the names of some of his aunts & uncles, so maybe he didn't care.

I loved reading your family information, and no, I am not surprised that a young man in a foreign country would marry a young woman of that country. I was pretty sure you were of Oriental background after reading your last name - Lee. So no real surprises, just amazement that we actually connected this way.

If this story proves to be true, and I believe it will, you and your 3 brothers have some rather illustrious Irish connections, the most famous being Daniel O'Connell, The Liberator. The Leyne family was also very well known, and produced a number of doctors and nurses. In fact, two of Ned's sisters were nurses, if I remember correctly. And a Leyne physician tended to Daniel and Mary O'Connell and their children while in Dublin.

The reply from 'Carloman' described Rockgrove Terrace in Cork City, and it coincides with the description I have of my grandmother's home. Also, my records show that John Gerald Leyne is from Rockgrove Terrace, Cork.

When you talk to your mother, please ask her if she remembers anything about Ned's brother Morris (Maurice) Leyne who is said to have joined him in running the rubber plantation. This information would really be icing on the cake.

I will provide for you any information you wish concerning the Irish connection. I hope your mother is happy to hear about this, after all these years.

I want to thank 'Carloman' for his/her input and ask that you send me whatever photos or info you may have on Rockgrove Terrace, Irish steam ships, or Leyne's. I will be asking you about several ships that my grandfather, Daniel John O'Connell, was first mate on, and will be looking forward to your reply.

I live near Seattle, WA, and am of the same generation as you, Donald. Probably close to the same age. Let's continue this privately, if that is OK with you. I'm very happy to meet you, cousin Donald! Hope to hear from you soon.
