Scorteen is a townsland just adjacent to Borris which belonged to the Borris
Kavanaghs in the 18th and 19th centuries. Ballyine is two townslands south.
You can locate them if you have Townsland Index Map XXIV (Carlow) from the
Ordance Survey Office in Phoenix Park, Dublin. There was fairly heavy
emigration to Canada from this area and further South even in the late 18th
century.

Parish registers go back to 1782 and there are copious gravestone index
material from the area. There is as well substantial deed information for the
area in the Registry of Deeds which sometimes mentions tenants. The Tithe
Applottment Books go back to about 1826 so there is actually fairly good
info. for the area. I have fairly substantial Kavanagh, Boyle, Byrne, Doyle
and Cloney information(mostly Kavanagh and Cloney) for South Carlow dating
back to the 18th Century. I have a little Murphy info as well.

Good luck
