Hello Pat,
Thanks for your post about Myles Keogh. I've been intrigued by his family's
connection to Tinryland, Co. Carlow, where my Timmins family lived. Here's a
couple of bits of information about his family that I found on the web -
http://indigo.ie/~wildgees/keogh.htm
Myles Walter Keogh was born on the 25th March 1840 at Orchard,
Leighlinbridge, Co. Carlow to John and Margaret Keogh. His mother was previously Margaret
Blanchfield of Clifden, Clara, Co Kilkenny. He was one of nine surviving
children. When he finished school in Leighlinbridge, he attended St. Patricks
College, Carlow. ....His brother Tom had married [woman named Alice ___], and now
lived at Park, Tinryland, Co. Carlow with his wife and three unmarried sisters,
Ellen, Margaret and Fanny. His brother Patrick lived in Orchard, but there was
a family lawsuit concerning same. His uncle, Patrick Blanchfield of Clifden,
died on the 12th June 1867, leaving the property to his sister Mary, with no
mention of Myles in the will. Seven years later in 1874, Mary left Clifden to
Myles in her will.

There is a stain glass window in a church in Tinryland, County Carlow some 7
miles from Leighlinbridge which has the following inscription, 'erected to the
memory of Thomas Keogh, Park, died 15th August 1897; his wife, Alice Keogh,
died 21st April 1875, and his brother, Bvt. Lt. Col. Myles W. Keogh, Capn. 7
Cavalry USA., killed in action 25th June 1876. R.I.P.'"
All the best,
Colleen

<< Monica,
Myles Keoghs father was Captain John Keogh of Fifth Royal Irish Lancers. His
mother was Margaret Blanchfield Keogh of Rathgarvan. John Keogh's grandfather
was a Thomas Keogh who was also an Army Captain and fought on the side of the
defeated Catholics at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.
All this taken from Myles Keogh's biography "The Honor of Arms" by Charles L.
Convis.
Family tradition has it that I'm related to Myles Keogh although I remain
sceptical; I haven't proved it yet.
I would be interested if you have the names of Myle's brothers and sisters.
Write to me off list and we can compare notes.
